João Marcus de Melo Rigoni joined Ulhôa Canto in 2008 and became a partner in 2019. He graduated from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro in 2003, and obtained his B.Sc. in Accounting from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in 2008, and his LL.M. in Taxation from The London School of Economics and Political Science in 2014. He is a specialist in tax law, with focus on consulting and merger & acquisition. He worked at the tax consulting departments of Ernst & Young Brazil, from 2004 to 2005, and PricewaterhouseCoopers Brazil, from 2005 to 2008. He is the author of “A Brazilian View on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting: An Alternative Path” and “The International Tax Regime in the 21st Century – The Emergence of a Third Stage”, both articles published in Intertax (a Kluwer Law Journal). He has been a member of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro Chapter (OAB/RJ), since 2005, and of the Regional Accounting Council, Rio de Janeiro Chapter (CRC/RJ) since 2009. He is also a member of the Associação Brasileira de Direito Financeiro – ABDF and of the International Fiscal Association – IFA. His native language is Portuguese and he is fluent in English.
